1. COOKIES AND OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES THAT WE USE
Web Browser Cookies
A cookie is a small text file that is sent by a website to your computer or mobile device where it is stored by your web browser, or in the case of a mobile application in an embedded WebView browser. A cookie contains limited information, usually a unique identifier and the name of the online service that you are using. This information enables online services to recognize you as you interact with or revisit the service. This can include which pages you have visited, choices you have made from menus, any specific information you have entered into forms and the time and date of your visit.
There are two main types of cookies:
- Session Cookies. Session cookies are temporary cookies that expire at the end of a browser session; that is, when you leave a website. Session cookies allow the website to recognize you as you navigate between pages during a single browser session and allow you to use the website most efficiently. For example, session cookies enable a website to remember that a user has placed items in an online shopping basket.
- Persistent Cookies. In contrast to session cookies, persistent cookies are stored on your equipment between browsing sessions until expiry or deletion which could be months or even years. They therefore enable the website to “recognize” you on your return, remember your preferences and tailor services to you over an extended period of time.
Cookies may be served to you by the website you are actually visiting at the time (a “first party cookie”) or by another organization operating on the website you are visiting, such as an analytics company or advertising network (a “third party cookie”).
Tracking Technologies: Web Beacons/Gifs, Pixels, Page Tags, Script
Web pages, emails and mobile apps may contain a small transparent image file or line of code to record how you interact with them. They are often used in conjunction with web browser cookies (or the identifiers associated with your mobile device), and they are used to help website and app publishers to better analyze and improve their services and to target advertising based on your browsing behavior and interests. For example, by knowing which web pages you visit or which elements of a page you viewed, when and for how long, whether you viewed and/or clicked on an advertisement on a site or whether you opened or clicked on marketing emails sent to you.
Tracking Via Mobile Apps
When you use a mobile app such as our Gigafin Mobile App, mobile app owners such as us and third parties may record unique identifiers associated with your device (such as the device ID, advertising identifiers, or IP address), your activity within the mobile app (such as websites you may have linked out to while inside the mobile app) and your network location. This information may be used to analyze and improve the services delivered through the mobile app, learn how you use the mobile app, and to serve mobile app advertising to you.
In particular, our Sites and Gigafin Mobile App may use the following specific categories of cookies:
You may have a choice about whether to have your information collected for the foregoing referenced purposes. See “Your Cookies Choices and How to Opt-Out” for information about how to exercise that choice.
